Held on home soil this year, 9 members of the Sydney University Judo Club fought in the 21st Australian University Games. Catriona, Cindy, Monica, Shaun, Nav, Karl, Hamish, James and Willy (representing UTS) collected an enviable set of results.
The women’s team took first place and the men’s team came in equal fourth place with ANU behind UNSW, USA and Bond.
Catriona took gold battling team mate Cindy in her weight division with an o soto gari while Shaun threw all his opponents to not only take gold but the Champions of Champions award too.
Monica fought with ferocity and determination to collect bronze. Hamish, James, Nav and Karl gained invaluable experience certain to further their fighting skills in future competitions.
Representing UTS, Willy demonstrated sound ground skills and won gold in his weight class.
SUJC played a small but important role, propelling the University of Sydney to become the overall champion of the 2014 University Games.
